INTRODUCTION:
In today’s blog, we will be discussing the importance of medicinal drugs, specifically Methylphenidate, and the importance of dosage and side effects when consuming medicine. To give some context to our amazing viewers, Methylphenidate is a medicinal drug used to treat people diagnosed with disorders like ADHD, ADD and narcolepsy. I know what you’re thinking, these are very common disorders in today's society, which is precisely why it is the spotlight of today's blog.
WHAT IS METHYLPHENIDATE?
Methylphenidate is a central nervous system stimulant. It affects chemicals in the brain and nerves that contribute to hyperactivity and impulse control. As mentioned previously, it is a drug commonly known to treat disorders like ADHD, ADD and narcolepsy.
We have all made at least a couple of trips to the pharmacy. Tagging along reluctantly behind your mum, into the pharmacy, after just visiting the GP for your health dilemmas, to be met with the familiar DING DONG! from the door of the pharmacy clinic. Watching your mum talk to the pharmacist about the new medicine you're about to take to treat your sickness, but I want you to ask yourselves fellow viewers, how many times have you actually read the back of a medicine prescription? I know the answer. NEVER! But I don't blame you. All those long, scientific words on the ingredients list make no sense to us ordinary people.
WHAT THE DOCTOR’S DON’T TELL YOU ABOUT YOUR MEDICINE PRESCRIPTION!
You might think your doctor knows her stuff on medicinal drugs, but that’s where the pharmacist comes to the rescue. Methylphenidate may be habit-forming. Misusing this drug can cause addiction, (and no not the addiction associated with your phones and Tik Tok), or in some scary cases, DEATH!!
Simulants like Methylphenidate have caused stroke, heart attack and sudden death in people with high blood pressure, heart disease, or a heart defect.
Make sure you take medicine as prescribed by a doctor, but you can always trust your local pharmacists since they will have all the knowledge about drugs and how to use them. In fact, pharmacists are able to prescribe medicine independent of doctors and general health practices.
So, I hope you have a better understanding of medicinal drugs like Methylphenidate and how to best use medicine prescribed by your doctor.
