Technology Trends: Games

Technology is constantly improving and is continuing to code new and improved forms of gameplay and virtual reality to innovate the gaming genre. This is a brilliant way for companies such Sony and Microsoft to hype up their followers as they continue to appeal generation after generation with their first-person shooters e.g., Call of Duty or adapting a comic book character into gameplay e.g., Spider-Man. This is great as gaming is trying to appeal the most amount of people possible.

Technology is improving so far to the point where the release of a new console generation meant to be played for nearly a decade is not enough for these third-party companies as the mere first few months after the release of the PlayStation 5 is not enough for Sony due to them recently announcing that they are going to introduce a new model for the PlayStation in the next couple of years with a much-improved CPU and GPU further enhancing the gaming experience whether that would be the frame rate, the load times and the general smoothness of the game.

Certain games such as Marvel’s Spider-Man for the PlayStation 4 came out in late 2018 and since the release of the PlayStation 5 in late 2020, Sony have released their remastered version of the game on that console.

When comparing the two games, you can see the massive difference in textures, lighting, overall realism and ray tracing (reflections instead of implemented box cubes). This shows the power of the next generation hardware as well as the capability of clear change in just two years of being released of each other.
